Rosa is a Brichera

Posted on 22. Aug, 2008 by in peru

The end of Rosa and I is coming soon. You’ve have gathered that I am not in love and cheat whenever possible. She has started to go a little crazy. She’s begun her efforts in trying to change a man.

She really lost her mind last week.  I’d been making plans to leave the country in September to renew my tourist visa.  I was juggling different options between visiting a friend in Hong Kong, meeting another in Caracas, or going to Santiago with Karin and another Dutch girl.  I couldn’t pull the trigger.

So Rosa came up with an idea and, before explaining it to me, she told me to not take this the wrong way. She explained that, to make it easier on me because it’s such a hassle that I have to leave the country every ninety days, then (as a favor to me and to help me out) she’d be willing to marry me so I could get Peruvian citizenship. I laughed. Now I laugh how much she phrased it as a favor to me.

Peruvian friends say Rosa is not a brichera.  She doesn’t speak English and has never dated a gringo – two key traits of a real brichera.  However, she’s lost her mind regardless so we’re basically finished. I met two potential replacements in the last couple weeks, one of which is a 28 year-old lawyer who I’m going out with after tonight’s game.
